Chinese technology giant Huawei is set to step up its wearable game by launching an Android Wear watch.

Chinese technology giant Huawei is set to step up its wearable game by launching an Android Wear watch. The company will unveil three wearable products, including its first smartwatch, and at least one tablet at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March.
Huawei confirmed to WIRED.co.uk at a briefing in Shenzhen that it will be showing off a number of wearable products throughout 2015, including at least one that will run Google's Android Wear. The company's current product strategy is to try and differentiate itself through innovation, and we can expect to see this reflected in its upcoming releases.
"One thing that is very important for us is to be different," said devices CMO, Shao Yang. "For the wearables we are not trying to bring similar solutions."
He also confirmed that Huawei's strategy of developing premium devices to capture the high end of the market would be applied not only to the company's smartphone range but across wearables and tablets too.
Huawei currently only has one wearable -- a sport- and sleep-tracking band called the Talkband B1. Launched last year at Mobile World Congress, the central module of the band, which can be detached to be used as a Bluetooth headset, displayed basic information, including steps taken and notifications. As a device it's perfectly attractive, but never stood out in a market being flooded with similarly capable products.
Yang did not confirm whether he saw Huawei wearables expanding beyond wrtistwear, but did acknowledge that more meaningful thinking needed to be attached to the design of wearable products.
"This is something very, very connected to the person," he said. "We need to build the link with the wearable and make the total experience even better."
Two tablets have also been confirmed for 2015, and at least one will be shown off at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. We don't know exactly what to expect yet from the new products, but given that the company reinvests ten percent of annual sales revenues straight back into research and development, it would be reasonable to have high hopes that the company will show off some exciting devices -- across smartphone, tablet and wearable categories -- in a few week's time.
